SGH Experience Day 2:
Leaving Home

December 2nd 2004

Well nothing gets me more in the mood for Christmas like waking up in my car. I’m fucking freezing. Last night my dad was having a massive go at everyone, exploding at the tiniest triggers like he tends to do every few days now. I just thought instead of fighting it all I’d pack up some stuff & be gone. I don’t have to be part of his empire. Jonah (Webb, Ash’s best friend) has told me a few times before he reckons the reason I don’t get on well with my dad is because we’re quite similar, but I don’t think so.

Last night I wrote a song & even recorded a little demo for it on this shitty recorder thing. It’s that “I Want My Goldfish Back” song. Don’t think I’ll show it to the band though, it’s not the right vibe.

Merry Christmas, better late than never. I still haven’t been back home since I left a few weeks ago, I’ve mainly been crashing at Bianca’s. However I spent Christmas at Elliot [Nest’s house, keyboardist in SGH] just cos I needed a break from her to be honest. Don’t tell her I said that…

Elliot’s mum is really sweet but also pretty dumb. She got me one of those 5-pack bags of acoustic guitar strings. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I’m a bassist and I’ll never use those strings. I would’ve normally, but come on, it’s Christmas.

I’m sorry I almost killed your girlfriend (And you)

Remember Rhys, the voice at the end of “NOW! That’s What I Call Closure”? This song is about how I got into a car accident while driving him, his girlfriend, and one of my other best friends Alfie.

I was very embarrassed about the whole ordeal and for a while after was anxious that the 3 of them would talk shit behind my back about it, even though they were partially at fault for distracting me while I was driving. So this song is a mixture embarrassment and a sarcastic flavour of anger.
